1. READERS WRITE
"I am sooo thankful to be getting your newsletter. ME/CFS and FMS can be a such a "doomsday" life ... I'm grateful for your positive God-focused attitude!!!"
"Thank you for doing your newsletter. I've used the info from it so many times."
2. DMPS & MERCURY
From a reader--
"In response to: www.fms-help.com/062711.htm - I had a a DMPS "urine challenge" four years ago and tested off the charts high for mercury toxicity. I have no idea where all that mercury came from. I did go through a year of treatment and then had all my filings replaced. I was very sick for 2 or 3 days after the injections for the first six months (I had a treatment every three weeks.) As I eliminated the toxins the treatments became less and less exhausting. The treatments themselves were VERY painful (one shot in each buttock) and VERY expensive. I figure I spent 5k on amalgam removal and DMPS treatments (out of pocket, of course.) I DID feel a lot better although I would not say I am "cured" of anything but mercury toxicity. I am thankful that I no longer have mercury in my system but it did not change the fact that I am still disabled by ME/CFS and FMS. Would I be worse off had I not done it? I have no idea."
3. WHEN BOTH HUSBAND AND WIFE HAVE CFIDS/M.E.
From a reader who is ill with multiple conditions, including M.E.--
Re: www.fms-help.com/062011.htm -- In regard to the couple who BOTH have M.E....I wonder how they even DO IT. It is my healthy husband who cooks for me and shops for me (or takes me shopping when I am up to it); he makes sure I am able to get to the doctor...he works all day and comes home to do maintainance....and he cooks for me and he shops for me; he does the dishes, and would do a lot more if I asked....I barely keep up with the house, cleaning a door here and there as I see dust settle for a third layer. My husband will fill my syringe and bring it to me when I need to take my injections; he will get my meds ready...he will GIVE me my injections if I need him to (and the sight of a needle makes him queazy). HE TAKES CARE OF ME. I don't know what I would do without his consistent help. HOW does this couple MANAGE? without the "other" to tend to her/his needs, how do they get through each day? who takes them to the doctor when they cannot use their limbs? I am baffled, and thank God that I do have a healthy and willing mate. If HE were ill along with me, I wonder how we would be able to manage...May God bless this couple and favor them with strength to help one another.....that one of them will always be a bit stronger on the day the other is flaring."

5. ZINC HELPED READER
From a reader--
"I have a summer cold and am feeling miserable. I remembered zinc was good for colds, so did some research. I used to take zinc almost daily for my immune system, and during the time that I did, I FELT BETTER than I have for a long time. My fibro has been really bad for some time now, and I stopped zinc about 2 years ago. In the research, I learned that zinc balances out the TH1 and TH2 response, which are the cytokines which make us feel the achy pain when we have a cold and also from fibro, because they are out of balance. If they are really out of balance from a flu, one can get a "cytokine storm," which can be very bad. So I surmised that zinc really does help the achy pain, fatigue and immune dysfunction of fibro. It helps the thyroid as well, and I noticed my weight was very stable when I was taking zinc. I stopped because I had read that too much was toxic, but I'm not sure how much "too much" really is. I just didn't want to overdo it. But every time I've had zinc in my regime, I have lost weight and felt better and my immune system was stronger. You'll see from one study that zinc is toxic to pancreatic cancer cells as well. Here's some information ran across: Dr. Gabriel Cousens states that cytokine storms are actually a result of an imbalance between TH-1 and TH-2, which are cells that attack pathogenic invaders. The TH-1 cells go after pathogens in the cells while the TH-2 cells attack pathogens in the blood system. There is another natural preventative remedy for the potential cytokine storm. Zinc helps correct this TH-1 and TH-2 imbalance by re-establishing a hormonal balance, greatly reducing the potential of a cytokine storm. There is good evidence that zinc salts also dramatically potentiate the action of the human cytokine interferon alpha, a type of protein that inhibits viral replication. Thus the immune system is less challenged, less likely to be overwhelmed, and free to handle immediate and present dangers. Zinc is an essential component of the specific SOD or superoxide dismutase enzymes, oxygen radical scavengers. These scavengers can significantly reduce mortality rates following a lung infection, possibly even if from a cytokine storm."
6. BOOK STAND SUGGESTION NEEDED
From a reader--
"I used to read a lot but Im having a tough time finding a good book stand or lectern. As you describe it so well, I feel like my head is a bowling all balanced on a pencil, and if I dont keep my head and neck straight I will actually flare up from having tilted my head down for more than a few minutes. Im looking for either a tabletop stand or a floor stand that is adjustable and will hold the pages flat. I have this Pfifer Reader (http://www.bphifermobile.com/bphiferproduct/3/Phifer+Reader.html) but its height is not adjustable. I would appreciate any web site suggestions or names of favorite stands your readers have found. I really miss reading!"
FROM DOM: Great question! Write dombush@bellsouth.net with any suggestions and I'll report next newsletter. Years ago I had a nifty plastic stand that I paid about $1 for. I used it to read my Bible at the kitchen table while I was snacking. Then it broke and I never replaced it, but sure would love to. I mainly read the Bible, light Christian romance and biographies. (BTW, the "bowling ball balancing on a pencil" feeling that I describe at www.fms-help.com/fatigue.htm has been gone for many years now, thank God.)
7. THE SUNSCREEN YOU SHOULD NEVER USE

8. UK HUSBAND HAS FIBRO
From a reader--
"The financial climate here in [the UK] is dire. It is extremely difficult to obtain a proper bank account for any person in reciept of state benefits, as we are now, due to my husband having Fibro and also (newly discovered by MRI scan) severe damage to the top of his spine, causing him to have no feeling in both arms. The banks just don't care and don't want to deal with such 'peasants'. If you can't work - you don't count for anything. Horrible situation!"
9. STATIN-INDUCED DIABETES
From a reader--
10. ARE YOU TOO ACIDIC?
http://landing.truehealth.com/products/ultimate-ph-balance/TEH_LP01.asp?SC=TEH1288
FROM DOM: Got this as a spam email, but it is a very interesting article about how acid in our bodies causes pain and disease. I first became interested in acid/alkaline balance about 30 years ago. I am a huge believer in staying more alkaline, but I could not find a way to do it with diet alone until someone told me about the drops you put in your drinking water (not the ones mentioned in this article, however). I have been using these oxygenating and acid reducing drops since August 2009 and my health improved tremendously in terms of less fatigue and brain fog. I also know of an acid reducing tablet that you take between meals - it is very high quality and safe. Write dombush@bellsouth.net if you want info on either of these (drops or tablets).

12. UNBALANCED BODY CHEMISTRY CAN WRECK YOUR HEALTH
13. CAN YOU TOLERATE A FLU SHOT?
FROM DOM: I ran across this info in a Consumer Reports health book. Snippet: "People allergic to eggs, which are used to make the influenza vaccine, should not receive the shot." That was surprising! I doubt that doctors ask children or their parents about this before jabbing them. In general, I don't know if flu shots, the shingles vaccine, etc. are safe for anyone, much less those of us with FMS/CFIDS. If you want to weigh in on this subject, write dombush@bellsouth.net. Personally, I don't know if I should have the shingles vaccine this year (when I turn 60). One doc suggested it, but another said I shouldn't do it because of my immune disorder (CFIDS www.fms-help.com/fatigue.htm).
14. MISLEADING OUR CHILDREN
From a reader--
http://justmeint.wordpress.com/2011/06/29/are-we-polluting-our-childrens-minds/
15. MARRIAGE BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS
FROM DOM: We all know how terribly stressful it is when there is trouble at home. We fibromites don't need additional stress in our lives. Here are some book recommendations that can help alleviate unnecessary stress from our marital relationships:
Fascinating Womanhood
by Helen Andelin
Why men dont like revealing things about themselves to their wives! Great book on understanding communication in marriage.
FROM DOM: And here is my own marriage booklet for women: "Marital Harmony: An Emergency Marriage Manual" www.fms-help.com/marriage.htm. It is for WIVES ONLY. (Don't let your husband read this.)
16. HELPFUL THINGS I USE
FROM DOM: As we all know, FMS/CFIDS is a huge challenge and a greatly misunderstood illness www.fms-help.com/skeptics.htm. We often don't get sympathy for our illness because we don't LOOK sick! Here's a list of things I use to stay functional: www.fms-help.com/what.htm. Perhaps something on my list will help you too!
My fibromyalgia story is at www.fms-help.com/fibro.htm (onset age 30).
My chronic fatigue story is at www.fms-help.com/fatigue.htm (onset age 35).
My insomnia story is at www.fms-help.com/insomnia.htm (onset age 16).
One of my docs told me that if I could solve the sleep disorder, everything else would get better - perhaps because the immune system would then be able to repair itself?? I am thankful for the meds, supplements and lifestyle helps that I have found that make my life SO much more manageable and comfortable than it used to be! (I'm not a doc, just an FMS/CFIDS survivor since 1982!)
