LABC School of Music

In September of 2006, Lake Asbury Baptist Church at 2674 Henley Road in Green Cove Springs, Florida established the LABC School of Music under the direction of Mr. Jason Weathersby. Since then, students of all ages have been learning to play the piano or guitar and sing! Our first recital was held on October 14, 2006 - it was a wonderful occasion! We have had many more recitals since then - the most recent being the 10th recital held on June 10, 2011. The goal of the LABC School of Music is to educate and train aspiring musicians to serve the Lord with their music.

At our 10th recital, 33 students of all ages and levels of ability performed before a packed house! Mr. Peter Belk, a talented pianist from the University of South Florida in Tampa, was our special guest. He played "Nocturne in E-Flat, Op. 9, No. 2 (Chopin)," "It is Well with My Soul," and "We are More Than Conquerors." At the close of the program, our founder, Mr. Jason Weathersby from Waycross, GA, told about how the school started and then sang and played "Thank You for Giving to the Lord" on the piano, as only Mr. Jason can do! Rev. Troy Grant, Pastor of Lake Asbury Baptist Church, and Rev. Tim Downing, LABC Worship Pastor, offered prayers for the students at the beginning and end of the program. The School of Music has been blessed for the past 5 years, and we give all glory to God as we continue training future church musicians to serve Him.

Mrs. Dominie Bush, instructor, has been a church pianist/organist for 26 years. Mrs. Bush graduated from UCLA in 1971 (B.A., psychology) and also studied Bible and Christian Education at Elim Bible Institute in New York. Mrs. Bush began teaching music in 1977 in Jacksonville, Florida and became a full-time music educator in 1993.

Mr. Rick Wyman, administrator of the LABC School of Music, is a former high school teacher. He is retired from the U.S. Navy and serves as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Lake Asbury Baptist Church.
