NEWSLETTER
June 7,
2010
A Christian-based
newsletter for people with Fibromyalgia (FMS), Chronic Fatigue
& Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS), or Myalgic
Encephalomyelitis (M.E.) and their
families.
23 topics
below. Don't miss the RED
ones. Readers' comments in
BLACK. My comments in
TEAL.
1. READERS WRITE
"I wanted to tell you that I really enjoy reading your
newsletters."
"Thanks again for your newsletter. I
always find something useful."
"I love your
newsletter."
2. ROOT
CANALS
Reader 1--
"My dentist wants me to have a root canal on a
molar that already has a filling in it. She has stated that the tooth can be
refilled, and which I have chosen to do, mainly because of the
expense. It will be filled with metal amalgam rather than the synthetic
material which it now has. However, in the future I would love to know
what to do in these cases and what other readers have done. Should the
tooth be pulled? or continuely repaired in some other manner?"
Reader 2--
"I read the article on the root canals
www.fms-help.com/060210.htm with great
interest - I have a QRA practitioner that has told me I have a bad tooth - I
think there is infection under it and it could be causing some of my problems -
I also have arthritis and don't think it affects that but it doesn't help I am
sure. This summer I am visiting a QRA dentist to get this taken care of and I
hope it wil clear some things up for me."
Reader 3--
"I WENT THROUGH
MISERY FOR ABOUT 2 YRS. WITH A TOOTH THAT WAS ON THE
UPPER RIGHT SIDE OF MY MOUTH- GUM INFECTION- GOING TO A SPECIALIST (GUM WHO HE
REFERRED ME TO- ALSO IN THIS CLICK OF THESE SPECIALISTS- BUDDIES) ----I
THINK THEY GET THEIR KICKBACKS- MONEY WISE---THAT WAS VERY EXPENSIVE- SO MUCH
PAIN IN THE UPPER SIDE OF MY HEAD- LISTENING TO THIS STUPID DENTIST AND HE
REFERRED ME TO HIS BUDDIES DOWNTOWN WHO WERE ALSO EXPENSIVE. WELL THEN I
GOT THERE AND THEY DID THEIR SPECIAL ROOT CANAL ON THIS CROWN- THEY CAME BACK
AND TOLD ME IT WAS TOTALLY CALCIFIED ON THE ROOTS. SO I WENT TO A DIFFERENT DENTIST STILL HAVING PAIN
AND TOLD THEM TO JUST PULL THAT EVIL THING OUT. WHEN THE OTHER DENTIST
FINALLY PULLED IT - THE WHOLE TOOTH DID NOT COME OUT. HE REACHED IN AND
PULLED THE REST OF THE ROOT OUT AND SET IT ON THE TRAY- WAS SHOCKED- IT WAS NOT
EVEN CONNECTED TO THE MAIN TOOTH AND THE REASON THE X-RAYS WOULD NOT SHOW
ANYTHING WAS BECAUSE MY REGULAR DENTIST HAD PUT A FILLING IN THERE (MERCURY
TYPE) THAT COVERED UP THE ROOT NOT BEING CONNECTED TO THE TOOTH.
OH-- I WOULD LOVE TO SUE HIM- BUT CANNOT BECAUSE YOU SIGN A PAPER ABOUT
THAT. OH I ALSO HAD NUMBNESS IN MY MOUTH AND LIPS A WEEK AFTER HIS
TREATMENT- WHEN I WENT TO HIM AND TOLD HIM THAT HE SAID "THAT IS
IMPOSSIBLE" - WELL THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME---BUT HE WOULD NOT BELIEVE
IT. IT WENT AWAY AFTER A FEW HOURS - LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO BUT THEN
IT CAME BACK A WEEK LATER---IT FINALLY DID GO AWAY AFTER A
WHILE. I ENDED UP PULLING THE ONES ON
EACH SIDE OF THAT IN ORDER TO STOP THE POCKETING IN THE
GUMS/INFECTION. THIS WAS YRS. AGO AND I AM STILL VERY ANGRY ABOUT
THAT- GOING ON SO MANY YRS WITH EXTRA PAIN SHOOTING ALL THROUGH MY UPPER HEAD
ETC. AND HE WOULD NOT EVEN LISTEN TO ME THAT I HAD A LOT OF
PAIN IN THAT AREA---JUST KEPT GIVING ME MORE X-RAYS---SHOWS NOTHING--NOW I KNOW
WHY IT SHOWED NOTHING!!! WELL I HAVE PROOF -
I SAVED THOSE TEETH- STILL HAVE THEM IN A DRAWER- OH DOM I AM STILL SO ANGRY
ABOUT THOSE YRS. I EVEN ASKED A DIFFERENT DENTIST WHAT IS THAT
"NOVACAINE" STUFF? HE SAID IT IS A MAN MADE THING--THAT THEY
REARRANGE THE MOLECULES SOME HOW AND IT IS SUPPOSED TO DISOLVE IN THE SYSTEM AND
I AM WONDERING IF IT IS STILL THERE MOVING AROUND IN MY BODY FROM PLACE TO PLACE
GIVING ME THE PAIN- LIKE IT DID NOT DISOLVE AS IT SHOULD HAVE. AND
THOSE NEEDLES THAT GO SOOOOO DEEP INTO YOUR BODY--INJECT INTO THE BODY-- THINK
ABOUT IT. THEY ALSO SAID THEY DO NOT USE NOVACAINE ANYMORE IT IS
SOMETHING ELSE NOW. ALSO MY BROTHER IN LAW ALMOST DIED FROM
A ROOT CANAL - HE GOT BACTERIAL MENINGITIS- ALMOST KILLED HIM. SO I WOULD
SAY -- JUST PULL THAT EVIL OUT OF THE
MOUTH---PERIOD."
Reader 4--
"Just a few comments about
root canals. I had one on an upper tooth for about 10 years and it gave me grief
for most of it! Had a crown put on it which then damaged my lower teeth as
well. The gum above the tooth got infected forming a pustule which I would
draw out with a poultice of baking soda. The dentist could also puncture it if
it got too big. Of course several courses of broad spectrum antibiotics...
Penicillin...so this did not help my chronic yeast problems. The best thing I
ever did was have it removed! I felt so much better afterward. The dentist was
able to build up the teeth on either side to fill the gap for my bite. It does
show a bit when I laugh but I don't care! My other teeth did move a bit and not
in a positive way!"
3.
MRSA
From a reader--
"Comment on MRSA article at www.fms-help.com/060210.htm - it is so
sad that hospitals do not take advantage of the technology that is already
available to rid the hospitals of MRSA and many other infections - There
are devices that can be installed in the ducts that have effectively gotten rid
of these killers in hospitals - I have a portable unit that I take with me so I
can protect myself since they won't."
4.
LYME
From a reader--
"This person may have developed huge
overgrowth of yeast due to chronic antibiotic therapy. i would
strongly recommending adding probiotics now and gradually
increase. you can feel worse before better as the yeast "die off" reaction
occurs. Keep your bowels moving - don't get constipated and you should feel
better."
5.
READERS' PRAYER CORNER
"Ms. D." - "I have been unemployed for quite a few months now and the stress and
anxiety that I am living with is not helping my Fibromyalgia. Please keep
me in your prayers. I have been trying to stay positive and keeping the
faith, but some days I feel that I am losing my
faith."
"Ms. C." - "My husband is going to need dialysis
by end of summer and will be placed on kidney/pancreas transplant list. Need
prayer to find donor fast and that his body will not reject the gift of
life. My niece is going into foster care. My child was sexually
molested and we have filed a complaint."
6. SUMA
From a reader--
"In your new newsletter www.fms-help.com/060210.htm (topic
16) your reader wrote about SUMA. I looked it up and WOW!!!!
This stuff must really be something great and it even says one of the many
things it is used for is CFS. Here is the website with the information
that I found below. There are capsules also at the website but I see your
reader used a powder? Says he took a teaspoon. http://www.answers.com/topic/suma-alcohol"
7. AMBIEN
From a reader--
"I too take Ambien and have for over two years. The strange things
I have done under the influence of Ambien could fill a book. But it is
after one in the morning and my Ambien is calling. Hope we both get our
beauty rest, I could certainly use some beautification."
8. MACA
From a reader--
9. OXYGEN CANISTERS
Question from a reader--
"I have a question about oxygen tanks. When I was in
the hospital and placed on O2, my pain level drops. My o2 saturation is fine,
but the muscles still seem to starve for oxygen. So recently I was at a truck
stop and they have miniature canisters for sale and I am thinking of trying my
theory out. Has anyone else tried this idea out?"
FROM DOM: I felt the same way until I
began using oxygen drops in my
water in August 2009. I have stamina 95% of the time with no fog, CFS
crashing, etc. My doc would not prescribe oxygen because he said my O2
level was fine, but I always felt like my brain wasn't getting enough
oxygen. Of course, we also know that CFS is related to heart function and
blood volume. And it is the blood that carries oxygen through the body and
to the brain. I also haven't been sick since then (a miracle for
me).
10. LAVENDER FOR FIBRO PAIN
From a reader--
"I am writing about an article I recently
read in Guidepost about how a woman with FMS began raising lavender and the oils
from the blooms when inhaled helped with her pain. Not that it totally took it
away, but helped. I am not sure if the stuff at stores would work or it has to
be directly from a lavender bush."
FROM DOM: I
read the article too. I have a high quality lavender oil (distilled from
lavender plants) - see www.fms-help.com/oilsstore.htm, but since I got rid of my fibro pain in 1996
(after 14 years of suffering) by using a powerful OPC (write dombush@bellsouth.net) I have not been able to experiment with lavender oil
for pain. Lavender and a blend called Peace & Calming help me with
relaxation, anxiety, etc. THERAPEUTIC GRADE essential oils
http://dom.younglivingworld.com affect the limbic
portion of the brain where our FMS problems are coming from.
Aromatherapy uses the olfactory (sense of smell) system to reach areas of the
brain. Do a SEARCH at www.oil-testimonials.com/6861 to see what oils may
help.
11. TOTAL
INSOMNIA
From a reader--
"My daughter [in her 20's] was not able
to sleep. Her doctor was afraid to give her sleep meds for fear that she'd
stop breathing. She had to go to her psychiatrist for help. That
doctor had to warn her that these meds could cause her to stop breathing.
My daughter told the doctor that if she didn't get sleep, she was going to cause
herself to stop breathing. So, with medication changes and other things,
she is finally getting some sleep. She now takes 1000 mg. chloral
hydrate, 200 amitriptyline, 100 mg hydroxyzine, 2 mg. requip, and
sometimes xanax. It's alot, but she is getting some sleep. She's
also been seeing a hypnotist. This has helped with the insomnia, and also
congitive thinking. We have purchased an
Alpha-Stim. This has helped reduce her pain
levels. In the last month, my daughter has been forcing herself to
get out of bed. She has been working in the [yard]. I truly hope
that she continues on this path. It's been over a month since we've been
to the ER for pain (we were going at least once a week). We had to
look for the right doctor and we finally found one. This doctor
has referred her to some awesome specialists who have really helped. So,
it's important to find someone who you really like, and who believes in
your condition."
FROM DOM: Has
anyone else used chloral hydrate http://www.drugs.com/mtm/chloral-hydrate.html or sleep? This is the first time
I've heard of this drug, but it sounds useful. A complete list of
everything I tried for sleep is at www.fms-help.com/sleep.htm. A list of what I use now is at
www.fms-help.com/what.htm. I have great sympathy for anyone whose
sleep clock is broken. Mine stopped working properly when I was 16.
I suffered decades of wretched insomnia www.fms-help.com/insomnia.htm, but I am finally medicated properly.
Many of these drugs were not even invented until recent years. I am now
58. I am so very grateful for the docs who have believed in me, had
compassion and helped me.
12. HD TV
& COMPUTERS
From a reader--
"I thought I was reading my own letter when I read the comments by Reader
1 in your last newsletter about HDTV and computer problems. I don’t have
an HDTV yet, but we are about to probably have to buy one, because my old TV
just died, and apparently, all you can get is HDTV now! Aaargghhh!
Also, I have the exact same symptoms with the computer and have to limit my use
of it. I also have noticed that using the computer during the day is not
as bad as night, maybe because, like the other reader said, the contrast is
worse at night, or maybe because my brain is not already so tired during the
day. It is very frustrating as my computer is my connection to the world,
and I don’t know what I would do without it! I wonder if laptop computers
are just as bad? I have considered buying one just so I can have it close
by and check in on email and stuff during the day in short sessions instead of a
larger chunk of time when I am able to go downstairs and get on my office
computer. One thing that helps me is printing out a lot of my emails or
articles that I want to read and reading them that way instead of at the
computer. It is expensive as far as ink goes, but it is worth
it!"
13. CURAMIN
From a reader--
"A reader asked about Curamin -- you said
it's 'high powered turmeric.' A few months ago at the vitamin store, I let
myself be talked into buying some curamin for pain, 120 caps for $65, without
first researching it. That is WAY too much for turmeric. It also has boswellia
and phenylalanine (which your body makes anyway). I took them for 2-3 weeks
without noticing any difference, so switched to something better and cheaper
(creatine). But last week, my new dr. suggested I take plain turmeric as
an anti-inflamatory for my arthritis. He is a pill-pusher but in this case, all
he was suggesting was ordinary everyday turmeric. I had bought a 4 lb. bag at
the Indian store a while back for my dogs, and it was $10! So I bought a bag of
250 empty capsules for under $5, to make some for myself. They will be a mess to
make (I'm too cheap to buy a capsule-filling machine) but the money saved is SO
worth it! I'm going to make capsules because I don't want to eat curry
every day."
14. A
FULFILLING LIFE
Quote sent in by a reader--
"The lives of each of you
may be ordered by the Lord in a beautiful way for His glory, if you will only
entrust Him with your life. If you try to regulate your own life,
it will only be a mess and a failure. Only the One Who made the
brain and the heart can successfully guide them to a profitable end....Thus the
Lord in His wonderful grace can arrange the life that is entrusted to His care
in such a way that it will carry out His purposes and plans, and will be
fragrant with His presence. Only the God-planned life is
successful. Only the life given over to the care of the Lord is
fulfilled."
FROM DOM:
It says nothing here about being rich, healthy, or beautiful - just fragrant
with His presence. Such a great
thought!
15.
BALTIC AMBER NECKLACE
From a reader--
"Since being diagnosed with (previously unheard of) FM last year, I have
appreciated the knowledge you bring. My FM is very mild, but is still somewhat
debilitating. I really feel for those with worse conditions. One thing I have
found really helpful in the past few months is a Baltic Amber necklace. Sounds
strange, I realize. My little grand daughter has one and my daughter swears that
it has helped with teething. When I discovered an adults one, I thought “It
can’t hurt”. I am in less pain, and I sleep better since wearing it. Apparently,
the heat of the body releases oils which are a natural pain relief. I am not
sure where your USA readers would get one. I got mine from Trade Me
(trademe.co.nz) for $36 (NZ). Cheap, since it
helps."
16. CELL PHONES & BRAIN
CANCER
17. NEURAGEN FOR SEVERE BURNING
NERVE PAIN
From a reader--
"The reader who is in such pain that narcotics
don't touch it www.fms-help.com/060210.htm --- I
am on narcotics for some of my pain; I have different types of pain;
my fms seems to react nicely with narcotic, but NOT my spinal
stenosis. my nerve pain needs something different altogether, and I
DO NOT LIKE LYRICA.. it is supposed to help fibro, but it does not help
mine. and it does not help my nerve pain, either. I use
Neuragen...a gel you can get from
Walgreen's. it is expensive, but you can get coupons
online...you can dilute it with emu oil or grapeseed oil which is also good for
driving the gel deeper into your skin. IT has SAVED me from E.R! I
get terrible and painful flares...the pain is in my thighs and down my calves
and i cannot stand nor sit nor lie down..i am up and down and running around as
one of those headless chickens. It is horrible. and I CRY ...I cannot sit
long enough to get to a doctor... The latest flare, I called the doctor to
(crying) say I cannot sit long enough to make my appointment. I cannot
drive, but even as a passenger, I cannot stay still. I was actually
informed to NOT miss an appointment -even by calling in this sick I
could NOT drive or get in as a passenger. ..I was told to GET there BY
AMBULANCE if I have to, but to NOT miss an appointment or he would actually
black-ball me. I was informed that I would not be able to GET another
doctor in Arizona to take me; and I would NOT ever, EVER get narcotics for my
pain. He is a pretty big doctor here...he has MOST of the rheumy docs
under his roof. I understand people who just willy-nilly do not show
up...BUT I DO NOT DO THAT. and this doctor kept me waiting for TWO HOURS
while he literally chatted with a fellow doctor....i heard them in the next
room. I was a 'no show' three times within 12 months and he 'fired' me for
that. (I did not even know that rule)..but a no-show is even if I call in
crying in pain! I never simply did a 'no show' I always called. I
have been going to him for over 12 years and this is the FIRST year that I
called in three times within a 12-month period!!! I TALKED with them
on the phone...and they simply told me to get in or I could never receive help
again.....I took the neurogen - my husband had happened to find it while he was
in line at the pharmacy ..GOD led him there...because the situation was so
perfect! I put that on...and it took 30 minutes, but after that time, I
was able to sit long enugh to get into the car and get to the doctor. the
PA was so sweet. she held my face (I was a mess...my tears soaked my
clothing....and i begged her to not fire me...that I had no place to go....it is
difficult to get a doctor to give narcotics for the pain. She gave me an
injection of Tramadol and that calmed the inflammation down so that the
narcotics culd work....and then the neuragen helped even more for the nerve
pain. the PA got a hold of the doctor, who had already written my
letter of dismissal, and talked him into letting me have another chance!
DO YOU BELIEVE THIS? I am on probation. I no longer let the
office make my apointments for me; i go home and make them when I have had a
'decent' week and it looks like I might be OK. BUT I never know.
what do the Monday patients do? IF we don't call in at least 24 hours
ahead of time...i get it..BUT when I am sick all weekend and Monday comes around
and I am still inpain..what to do ? my pain was so bad I could NOT get
there. I THANK GOD FOR THE NEURAGEN. IT WORKED ENOUGH TO
GET ME TO THE DOCTOR FOR MY INJECTION. the nerve pain gets so bad that
there is no describing it Neuroagen helps when my feet are on fire. literally,
it feels like fire is set to them....and if i touch it to apply the neuragen, it
feels like raw meat. but I DO apply it and get relief within 20 minutes.
THANK God for the Neuagen. It is from Canada...new here in the U.S
Expensive, but when I am desperate, I pay the rpice. It is $15. for a tiny
sample and $30. for a tiny bottle that i dilute with emu oil.... it is all
cloves and oils of natural things...lot of lavender...but the combinationis
amazing because it WORKS like NO other has ... but it does not last long....i
use it to just give me RELIEF so I can use the bathroom...or get to the
doctor."
18. BLOOD SUGAR & DIABETES
1.5
From a
reader--
"in regard to blood sugar www.fms-help.com/060210.htm, I have
diabetes 2, but i was told years ago it is not the "normal" way people get
it. I was told by this doctor that it was due to the auto immune problems
I have...I also had 'dawn' syndrome..where the morning glucose would be
in 300's!!! I
keep my sugars under control with two injections a day (afternoon and evening)
and a pill in the morning. Well, Google this one: Diabetes type
1.5 YEP, it is partially from the diabetes 1 and partially
from diabetes 2...and because of it, we have 'special' circumstances. It
is NEW information...but it might describe so many of US! and it makes
sense now what that older doctor had said. You will find it very
interesting."
19. CAMI
SECRET
From a
reader--
FROM DOM: Yes, they all have lace. I
guess you could make your own - it doesn't look hard at all, but Cami Secret has
a unique, soft plastic, garter-type fastener that attaches to bra straps to hold
it in place, and I don't know where you can buy those fasteners. The
material is soft, silky and slightly stretchy. They can be worn, low,
middle or high, depending on the look you want. I'm having so much fun
with them! There is another set I didn't buy (but maybe should have) that
are animal prints. They would look cute with black clothes. The
many different colors are shown at www.camisecret.com. I got 9 colors - they come as sets of 3
(black, white, beige, gray, navy, brown, fushia, turqouise, and
lavender) all for $20, but shipping was huge at $14.95. Still, Cami
Secret has expanded my wardrobe so much - I can wear clothes that I couldn't
before, so it was definitely worth it. (When ordering, just say NO to all
the extra offers they bombard you with - the so-called FREE gift cards are
really annoying, because you have to sign up for stuff that costs money then
cancel, so why bother.)
20. TRAMACET FOR SLEEP
From a reader--
"For myself I believe getting sleep is
critical. My (Canadian) doctor prescribed 1 Tramacet daily at bedtime
for sleep. It is my miracle drug! She has
now given me up to 2 a day. TRAMACET is a centrally-acting
synthetic opioid analgesic prescription product containing tramadol (37.5 mg)
and acetaminophen (325 mg). (http://www.chrgonline.com/news_detail.asp?ID=38862) The
tylenol in it works immediately to help me relax. I have a tendency to
'fight' pain relievers. At this time I mainly require Tramacet
in the early spring , Fall and winter seasons. By the way do not take this on an
empty stomach at bedtime or you will be awake with acid reflux! I take it early
evening and fall into a more natural restful sleep. Many pillows, wedges, and
memory foam help me sleep too by avoiding pressure points and cooling (pillows
by Chillow.) White noise from a fan camouflages my husbands
snoring!"
FROM
DOM: This reader sounds like me. The only thing I would add is a
black eye mask to block out any light. A list of everything I've tried for
sleep is at www.fms-help.com/sleep.htm. A list of everything I use now
is at www.fms-help.com/what.htm - I sleep "acceptably" most nights
now. Just wish I'd known about all this stuff and various meds that hadn't
even been invented back in 1967 when I was 16 and my sleep disorder was just
beginning www.fms-help.com/insomnia.htm.
21. LISS
STIMULATOR
From a reader--
"I am using the Liss Stimulator http://www.selfhealthsystems.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=SP&Store_Code=SHS and
am off all my antidepressants and anxiety meds plus I am feeling better and more
energetic than I have in years! Dr. Shealey's protocol for
fibro is worth a real good look and I would highly recommend it to
others! I also highly recommend the magnesium lotion.
It is great for calming the nerves and tends to relieve some of the muscle
tightness I have from the fibro. I have a new MD who also
believes in holistic medicine and she trained under Dr. Shealey. I want to
share this with all the fibro sufferers out there! I was nearly bedridden the
last year and a half and now I am out shopping and planting flowers until
dark! I am also taking Korean Ginseng for my adrenal problems and I have
added Melatonin (gel caps) to my bedtime along with 100 mg trazadone and along
with the Liss machine I am finally sleeping better than I have for as long as I
can remember. I still only get around 6 hours at the most
at a time but it is not interrupted like before! I was waking up every 2 hours
and having such a hard if not impossible time falling back to sleep!
I hope this information helps
others!!!"
22.
SECULARISM'S ONGOING DEBT TO CHRISTIANITY
23.
SWEETENERS
From a reader--
"I have tried several kinds of stevia, they
were liquid and powder forms, white crystals, in one formula, bonded to white
sugar, and a liquid, all were horribly bitter after the very first hit of
sweetness. I think you can find unrefined stevia. Have you tried stevia or
heard from readers about it. I've heard of Suconot and may get that.
What do you use? All the health types scream against anything like
Splenda, Sweet n Low, or Equal, so I am not doing that, but of everything so
far, Sweet and Low was the one I could tolerate, but I won't get it either. I
just got some Lohan to try, Chinese something stuff."
FROM DOM: I dislike Stevia too - yech! I also don't
use Equal, aspartame, etc. after learning how bad this stuff is for your
health. A sweetener that is good tasting is Blue Agave Natural
Sweetener (a liquid) at http://dom.younglivingworld.com - "Blue Agave nectar is a delicious,
natural sweetener preferred by health-conscious people for use in foods and
beverages. It has a low glycemic index rating, making it ideal for those with
special dietary needs and those who wish to avoid sucrose or artificial
sweeteners. Substitute sugar or honey with Blue Agave at a ratio of
approximately 1:3/4." However, I don't see anything too bad with
using just a LITTLE bit of sugar. I've heard that it is COOKED sugar
(like in cakes, pies, pastries, cookies, donuts, etc.) that is so bad for you -
not regular table sugar. Comments? Write dombush@bellsouth.net.
