"I am in soo much pain.. I switched antidepressants through the doctor. I don't know if that stirred things up. Have you ever read this??? I saw a psychiatrist (for meds) and the next day went off Lexapro and back on Prozac. I did shopping for about 3 hours with no pain!! However, the next day I crashed in pain - buttocks, pelvic area, neck, everywhere. I awoke with such pain in my hips. I rested mostly, but now there are bad pains AGAIN....I don't get it!...I felt great shopping and next morning hurt like h***. I can tell this is not going to take just a few days to get rid of. Any insight??"
FROM DOM: I totally understand what this reader is talking about. I'm not a doc, and it's just a theory, but I think something happened biochemically that is increasing pain signals....probably the change in antidepressants. And I don't think she "overdid it" shopping. Something changed in her brain. I used to have severe fibro pain in buttocks, shoulders, neck, arms, etc. I got rid of this (after 14 years of suffering) with a powerful antioxidant - see www.fms-help.com/fibro.htm, although it doesn't work for everyone. This reader's pain could be caused by inflammation too. Glucosamine and MSM may help - or an epsom salt soak in the tub. Sometimes this helps because of the magnesium. Dealing with fibro can be so complicated....sigh! I have been blessedly pain free for many years now, although I battle other symptoms. You can read a list of 100 symptoms of FMS at www.fms-help.com/signs.htm.
2. EATING FAT DOES NOT HURT CHOLESTEROL
From a reader--

3. THE ENCOURAGING WORD
“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today. Seek the
Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” - Matthew 6:33 NLT
4. TRAUMATIC EVENT TRIGGERS FIBRO
From a reader--
"I recently had a very traumatic event happen to me and am now suffering from widespread muscle pain and fatigue. it hurts so much! I am only 28. I am very active and can't stand feeling this way!"
FROM DOM: I sure am sorry to hear about this reader's fibro pain. It happened to me when I was 30. See my fibro story at http://fms-help.com/fibro.htm. I had 14 years of severe fibro pain before finding relief in 1996 (with a powerful OPC). However, I still deal with other aspects of this illness, for which I take medications and supplements. We have to tackle fibro from many angles. I hear frequently from people who develop fibro after unrelenting stress or traumatic events. Read a list of causes of fibro at www.fms-help.com/causes.htm.
5. TOXIC AIR FRESHENERS
http://www.drbenkim.com/dangers-air-fresheners.html - Snippet: "If you use synthetic air fresheners in your car and/or living space, you should know that you're likely increasing risk of developing a variety of health problems. Headaches, earaches, depression, an irregular heart beat, and diarrhea in babies are just a few of many health challenges that have been linked to regular use of synthetic air fresheners."

7. MONKEY VIRUS
From a reader--
"Re: www.fms-help.com/092512.htm - In regards to the "monkey" virus (SV40 in the polio vaccine): When I was a child, my mother and I both took the polio vaccine on the sugar cube, and we both became sick! our leg pain was extreme. My mother would rub my legs every night, and still I received NO relief! She would put her legs up all during the day. I spent all my youth suffering from lack of stamina. I could never keep up with the rest of my group in gym (p.e.) or on any sport team. My mother also suffered this way. I would become exhausted and weak very easily. I had not heard of "fatigue" back then in the 50's and 60's, but I now realize that is just what it was (and is).
Within a couple of years, my mother's and my pain 'subsided' (remission?); then in 1994, I came down with the worst virus I have EVER had! I thought perhaps it was the 'virus' that caused my fibro, but I wonder if the flu "awakened" the 'other' virus.
If you recall, it was in the government's release (read the article The Linking Pathogen in Neuro-System Diseases: Chronic Fatigue, Alzheimer's Parkinson's and MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS by Donald Scott if you want to read the story of our illness!) of the biotoxins through the infected mosquitoes in the late 50's and the actual dropping of "bombs" over our cities as well as spraying. These are "covert" viruses that will remain asleep for up to 30 years! I believe that is what happened to me. I was sick from the sugar cube, went into 'remission' where the toxins were asleep all that time, and then from the virus (it takes a emotional or physical event to wake it up), it was awakened.
Others became sick when, in Florida, the government released the infected mosquitoes (referred to as flying syringes!) Still more became ill in different cities when different sprays were done. (read OSLERS WEB and you will see the connection staring you in the face!)
I have been sick ever since, becoming more and more ill as each years passes. I have had three heart procedures, and still my heart is not good. I have had many surgeries from the many complications of my illnesses, ALL of them auto immune. My latest focus are my feet and legs. surgeries have helped, but I find I am needing three more...yet I cannot have them for at least four more months because I cannot survive a surgery due to what is going on with my heart! I have nerve damage and nerve death and suffer in great pain all over my body because of it. I fear I will one day be unable to walk at all! (I have been diagnosed with M.S. as well.)
I have spoken to other fibromites who, like me, have more than "just" fibro and/or M.E. Others, llike myself have a grocery list of illnesses and "sub" illnesses. I have 13 diagnosed illnesses with many more complications.
The Desert Storm soldiers became ill with the SAME symptoms as we have; and it has been proved to be infectious! I personally received a warning from W.H.O. to NOT give blood! I was told in that letter that I was "infectious". NOT contagious, but infectious! within a few years, the wives of our soldiers and their BABIES were showing the same symptoms!
My oldest grand daughter (18 years old) is showing symptoms of fibro! Her younger sister (17 years old) has had the symptoms since a little girl. My other granchildren have shown no signs, and neither have my children! I sound like a conspiracy theorist, but I suppose that is because I have become one."
FROM DOM: See my pages about these topics at www.fms-help.com/mycoplasma.htm, www.fms-help.com/polio.htm, www.fms-help.com/aids.htm and www.fms-help.com/stealth.htm. Now that this has been said, what is the answer? One thing I have found is the immune balancing powder, developed by Dupont & Conagra about 20 years ago. According to the scientist who did the studies on the powder, it re-educates the immune system to recognize invaders. My question is, why does the immune system need to be re-educated? What un-educated it? Perhaps some of the answers may be in the pages mentioned earlier in this paragraph.

9. GOD HELPS READER IN PAIN
From a reader--
"Today is the first day that I have been able to get out of bed for very long. For three days I lay there writhing in pain. The pressure on my body just to lay down was tremendous. It got so bad yesterday, that I actually called my doctor and asked for pain medication. My husband went to the pharmacy and picked it up for me. It was Hydrocodone. While he was gone, I prayed harder; I really don't like to use that type of medication. By the time he came back, I was sitting up in the living room, feeling so much better! The Lord heard my cry for help, and today I have gone for a short walk and sat out in the sun and breeze with my three little dogs. The pain I was in is all but gone! I never did take the medicine. I has made me really appreciate this day that God has created! My husband came out and asked me why I was crying. With all the pain previously, I never cried. I told him I was crying with joy for what God has given me! I am in a bit of fog..... But thanking God all the way!"
FROM DOM: I love it when God shows up like this to help us out!
10. TOP 5 FIBROMYALGIA SITES
From a reader--
"I wonder what your readers think, besides your excellent site www.fms-help.com , what the top 5 FMS sites on the Net are?"
FROM DOM: Well, that was tactfully stated....ha! If you would like to share your favorite FIBRO or CFS site, please write dombush@bellsouth.net.
11. DILAUDID FOR FIBROMYALGIA
FROM DOM: Just curious if anyone has tried dilaudid (an opiate) for fibro pain? I have been pain free since 1996 after 14 years of suffering severe fibro pain. I found a powerful antioxidant that delivered me from this horrible suffering. Just heard from a reader who had a bad experience with dilaudid, but others online say it was the only thing that helped their fibro pain. For example: http://www.fibromyalgia-symptoms.org/forums/fibromyalgia_drugs/dilaudid/ and http://www.everydayhealth.com/drugs/dilaudid-for-fibromyalgia-syndrome-fms/review. I also had a comment from a reader about dilaudid in a past newsletter at www.fms-help.com/010107.htm (Topic 1, Reader 3). Has anyone tried dilauded and wish to comment? Please write dombush@bellsouth.net.
12. CASHECTOMY & SLEEP DISORDER
From a reader--
"I am spending money - that cashectomy you speak of. I can’t plan like I”d like to about my life, because so often I have had poor sleep. Most of this week I have slept all at the wrong time. Last night I went to bed about 10:00 and woke up about 2:30 and went to morning Mass at 6:00—it’s very nearby for me to walk—and then fall asleep about 7:30 am and got back up about 11 am. I had to stop Lunesta, it is horrible, and went back to Trazadone."
FROM DOM: In my humble fibro-opinion, it's okay to sleep like that. I do that a lot. That's why I don't schedule anything before noon unless it's an emergency, or church on Sunday morning. Other than that, nothing gets scheduled before noon, because if I don't sleep enough or well enough, I can take more sleep meds and go back to sleep for a few hours, or my brain just can't function. See my insomnia story at www.fms-help.com/insomnia.htm - insomnia can wreck your life and make you sick. A list of things I take now, and get restorative sleep most nights, is at www.fms-help.com/what.htm.

15. FEELING GUILTY ABOUT HAVING FIBROMYALGIA / CFS
From a reader--
"I am just now able to look at the September newsletter, and it was as though this was written just for me. I have FMS and chronic fatigue. The last 5 days I have been recuperating from a horrible migraine. As I write this, I'm in a darkened room, as light is still making me hurt. My point is... I was supposed to go out of town today to visit relatives, but had to cancel. So, I again try to explain what FMS is. Sometimes the guilt I carry eats at me because I was taught my word is my bond. So THANK YOU for reminding me, I'm not alone (unfortunately). Many suffer as I do and have to explain many times to family and friends. GOD BLESS YOU as you make a difference."
FROM DOM: This is an all too familiar situation in my life as well. Plans change unexpectedly......it sure is hard to explain FMS/CFS to others, because it is an invisible yet chronic illness with ups and downs. (For me, it depends primarily on the quality of my sleep or lack thereof.) Perhaps if we just tell people that we have a "neuro-endocrine-immune disorder" www.fms-help.com/neuro.htm that will be more descriptive for them. My husband is my biggest advocate (thank God!) He has been explaining my FMS/CFS limitations to family and friends for years now. I sooooo appreciate this! Still...there are those who do not understand, but at at least they know someone believes there's something wrong with me. Since we know our personal limitations, we might say something like, "I would love to come and will be there if my health is up to it. I will call you as soon as I can if I need to cancel." Right now I am feeling bad because I've had to cancel on my dental hygienist twice (in plenty of time). I explained my FMS/CFIDS situation to the dentist's office, and they understand now. I also don't schedule anything (not even work) before noon, since I don't know if I will sleep OK or not. I only break this rule for emergenies and to play the piano for church on Sunday mornings. Explain yourself the best you can, but don't expect everyone to understand. Just be grateful for those who do. Frankly, no one truly understand fibromyalgia/CFS except for those of us who have it. My experience has been going on for 30 years now, with many ups and downs. I have to manage my symptoms carefully with things on my list at www.fms-help.com/what.htm. I also have 100 Tips for Coping at www.fms-help.com/tips.htm that may be helpful.

17. ARE FIBROMYALGIA SYMPTOMS CAUSED BY PARASITES?
From a reader--
"I am 25 - an intellectually-minded professional. I am suffering from unusual symptoms and have seen many doctors and heard different explanations. It's exhausting and frustrating. I've had different diganoses - one being fibromyalgia and the other a fungus / bacteria / parasite problem (from a nautropath). I don't know which to believe? I'm currently on natural meds from my naturopath. My symptoms are: strange sensations under the skin, movement, burning, creepy crawling feeling, stinging,stabbing/shooting pains, muscle spasms and sleep problems. I have been suffering for 2 years and trying everything to correct this problem. Your story www.fms-help.com/fibro.htm was inspiring and gives hope, as this illness is extremely difficult to deal with. People just don't understand how awful the symptoms are to cope with. I haven't given up. I'm doing on-going research and even studying nutrition. I think the problem is caused from a parasite. What do you think?"
FROM DOM: This reader's symptoms sound a lot like what I've been through. See my page on the causes of fibromyalgia at www.fms-help.com/causes.htm. Many years ago, Dr. Hulda Clark (not an M.D.) published a controversial book called "The Cure for All Diseases." She believes that all illnesses are caused by parasites or flukes. Her site is at www.huldaclark.com. There is a free downloadable version of this book at www.freedrclarkbook.com. However, not everyone agrees with Dr. Clark that flukes are the cause of endometriosis, fibromyalgia, cancer, AIDS and other illnesses. I am not a scientist nor doctor, so I can't take a position on this. However, here is an article in Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hulda_Clark tells about the life and work of Hulda Clark. Sadly, she herself died of blood and bone cancer in her 80's. I have lots of helps on my site at http://fms-help.com - check out the links in the yellow box on the left. Fibromyalgia is a neuro-endocrine-immune disorder: www.fms-help.com/neuro.htm. Doctors can only treat symptoms, since there is no known root cause, and therefore no cure yet, but you know the pharmaceutical companies are working on this, since there would be a huge windfall of profit if a drug were found to cure this. Presently, meds like antidepressants, anticonvulsants, anti-anxiety meds, antivirals, and sleep meds are prescribed. There are also many supplements that can be helpful. See a list of things I personally use at www.fms-help.com/what.htm .... just so I can have a relatively functional and "normal?" life.
18. ESSENTIAL OILS FOR SLEEP
From a reader--
"In researching insomnia articles, I came across what you mentioned regarding a combination of essential oils. I would be so grateful if you could share this. Like you, I feel like I haven’t slept in many years. I’ve tried every OTC available, plus Restoril and Ativan, both of which I built a tolerance to quickly. Thank you for any suggestions you may provide."
FROM DOM: There are no essential oils that will "put you to sleep," but there are some that help with relaxation and anxiety. See www.fms-help.com/oilsstore.htm. Certain essential oils also have a profoundly positive effect on the limbic portion of the brain (via the olfactory system). This area of the brain is where many of our fibro symptoms are coming from. I've had insomnia since I was 16 - see www.fms-help.com/insomnia.htm. A list of things I've tried for sleep is at www.fms-help.com/sleep.htm. A list of things I use now (to get fairly restorative sleep most nights) is at www.fms-help.com/what.htm. I've pretty much had to resort to a combo of meds in order to sleep. They have been a mercy, after decades of life-wrecking insomnia. My "sleep clock" is permanently broken.
19. FOAM MATTRESS FAILURE
Response from a reader to www.fms-help.com/092512.htm--
"I want to encourage the reader with the failing foam mattress. When a company warranties a product, you might expect to need to pay for the shipment of the product back to the company, so the $200. is not unreasonable. I was furious the first time I had to do such a thing, but learned rather quickly that it is a reasonable request. The company warranties the product - a GUARANTEE might include shipping, but not a warranty. If you figure that for $200 you will get a "new" mattress, it is not a bad deal. I understand - that was a lot of money to put out on the mattress; I had a magnetic mattress that was quite helpful for about a year. I spent a lot of money on it, and after a year, it started to fizzle. I was SHOCKED to learn that magnets DO 'wear out"! The fact that it was only "months" when her mattress started to fail, perhaps the company will give her a break on the shipping. If she looks at the warranty, I bet the warranty is for about 90 days...and then she has to start paying for help. I hope the reader is able to come to some agreement with the company and once again get some good sleep."
20. SENSITIVE TO PAIN
From a reader--
"I HATE being so sensitive to pain. I was when I was a child too. I wonder if all of us fibro people are."
FROM DOM: See http://www.hsperson.com about Highly Sensitive People. Many fibromites are HSP's. There are many good things about being an HSP, not just bad. It's the way we are made and our brains function differently.
21. DOM'S FAVORITE INSPIRATIONAL BOOKS

22. DOM LOSES FRIEND
I lost a wonderful friend this week and played the piano for her funeral. Paulla was just 49....a great Christian lady....a prayer warrior, and loving, caring person who exemplified her favorite song, "When It's All Been Said & Done." The vehicle that took her to heaven was brain and lung cancer....awful to watch the suffering as this disease progressed in the past 9 months, despite all efforts to save her. May God bless and comfort her dear family, especially her 16 year old daughter, one of my piano students. Of course, from Paulla's perspective, she is in the presence of God, free from pain, and I really hope she has met my dad by now! Donnie and I sang a duet in church Sunday night, "What a Day That Will Be." Donnie chose this song because our hearts were so touched by Paulla. The lyrics are:
There is coming a day,
When no heart aches shall come,
No more clouds in the sky,
No more tears to dim the eye,
All is peace forever more,
On that happy golden shore,
What a day, glorious day that will be.
What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see,
And I look upon His face,
The One who saved me by His grace;
When He takes me by the hand,
And leads me through the Promised Land,
What a day, glorious day that will be.
There'll be no sorrow there,
No more burdens to bear,
No more sickness, no pain,
No more parting over there;
And forever I will be,
With the One who died for me,
What a day, glorious day that will be.
Well, that's all for now! I've had a super busy week with my newly formed teen choir singing 3 times this weekend - at a teen rally and for 2 church services. I also played for the funeral of a dear friend. I stay busy with my piano and guitar students at the School of Music. What has really been a blessing is working only 9 blocks from home and being able to schedule my students from 2:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Back when I had morning jobs, they were torture with this sleep disorder. UGH! This work schedule works out SOOO much better for me, coupled with careful "hour to hour" management of my symptoms with meds and supplements. My list is at www.fms-help.com/what.htm. Just wish I had known this great info when I was first diagnosed in 1982. I suffered soooo much for so many years before I started to find help in 1996 thanks to God's providence and the internet (that story is at www.fms-help.com/fibro.htm).
On occasion I will be sending you some really old newsletters (like some I wrote as long as 9 years ago). It's uncanny how these subjects are STILL being discussed in the FMS/CFS world seemingly without much resolution!!! But there's also LOTS of good stuff in those old issues, so look for them in your email box from time to time! :)
Bye for now,
