8. HEPARIN
(revisited.......DANGERS!)
From a newsletter reader--
"Noticed that you referenced Dr. Gordon's
approach to fibrinogen in the June newsletter.
Gordon & Dr. Berg of Hemex Labs
"concocted" this protocol about 3 yrs. ago. My specialist MD asked me to
check it out. He contemplated using the procedure on several of his
FMS/CFS patients.
A friend of mine had her blood tested at
IgenX Lab for the APS/CFS "syndrome".
You're likely aware that
blood-thinning meds are dangerous -- Heparin, Coumadin,
Plavix.
My friend's Lyme Disease MD did initiate the
protocol in several of his patients -- including my friend. He soon
STOPPED using it.
Many were rushed to the ER. A number of
them developed acute pancreatitis, bilary symptoms, gastric problems & a
host of other "odd" conditions.
By its nature, Heparin can
lead to hemorrhaging & thrombosis. It seems a drastic measure
to take for a "maybe" solution. No study has been undertaken, so I'd not
jump on the bandwagon. If anything, the Hemex was aborted.
Hemex had (maybe still has) the protocol at
its website. The Heparin protocol was replaced --
understandably. Apparently, there were many, many adverse reactions to the
protocol.
In its place, the supplement
Wobenzym, is suggested. Rutin is the key
ingredient that is know to safely thin fibrinogen. "W" has many other
benefits. It has been widely used in Europe for 40+ years & introduced
in the US for sports-related injuries. You may want to research it.
It eases inflammation & has done wonders for my arthritic
symptoms (all of them). Many of us have gastric problems & require
enzymes. Wobenzym contains all of them! Taken with meals,
it kills more than two birds with one stone!
Drs. Gordon & Berg suggested taking 12
daily. A bit of overkill in my estimation. Three or four daily serve
me well. At first blush, it may look like a costly supplement.
Considering all it contains, I've been sold on it for three years.
http://www.iherb.com consistently has the
best prices. Thought you should be apprised of the ramifications of the
Heparin/APS protocol."

BREAST IMPLANTS AND PAIN PACEMAKERS
"I am curious as to how many woman who
had breast implants have wound up with fibromyalgia, and
also if any readers have heard of the
pain pacemaker. My doctor suggested I try
it."

HATE TO FLOSS?
Got this from a newsletter
reader--
"This
was in the news clips today, on
CompuServe...
Interesting New Use For
Mouthwash
Hate to floss? A lot of folks never do it despite the
admonitions from their dentist. Turns out, that's okay as long as you use
mouthwash--specifically Listerine. Reuters reports that a new
study published in the Journal of the American Dental Association concluded that
regular use of the antiseptic mouthwash Listerine has the same benefit as
flossing.
The Pfizer study included 326 people who had mild to moderate
gingivitis, which is gum inflammation. All of them were told to brush their
teeth. Some were instructed to then floss, while the rest used Listerine without
flossing. The people who used Listerine showed the same improvement in plaque
and gum inflammation as those who flossed. A second study of 301 participants
showed similar results, except those using Listerine had an even greater
reduction in plaque after three to six months of use. How does Listerine do this? Charles told Reuters it
contains essential oils that get between teeth and kill the germs that brushing
does not reach."
The newsletter reader continues to
say:
"Ah, HA! About 15 years ago
I started using Listerine. Three years after that I finally went to the
dentist. I had NO PLAQUE. I use it twice a day.
Still no plaque. If you have bleeding gums for any
reason, try about 100 mgs. of Co-Q10. It's an enzyme we
loose as we get older. It stopped my bleeding gums. I just
looked on my bottle of Listerine and the oils are Thyme and Eucalyptus.
How about that!"
[NOTE FROM
DOMINIE: This was good news to me as I am a terrible dental phobic
from having my teeth drilled many times without Novocaine as a
child.]
11. VALTREX DANGERS (DR. DANTINI
revisited)
From a newsletter
reader--
"I too went to see Dr. Dantini and he
prescribed the same medications for me but after I did the research on them, I
was too scared to try it. From what I could tell, taking that much Valtrex
would burn out my liver and I am just not willing to put myself at such a
risk."
[NOTE: I had
reported on Dr. Dantini's approach in a positive light in a previous
newsletter. Just thought everyone should know the opposite side of the
coin.]
12. HOLOSYNC FOR SLEEP AND DEPRESSION
"I also wanted to add that I know
many people who have used the Holosync cd's to overcome depression. The holosync
website has a lot of info on the program. I actually sleep worse, staying in
that lucid dreaming state all night, when I use them at bed time, but I
find them very beneficial in calming myself down when I'm overstressed or angry.
When I've used them on a daily basis(which the program calls for) I remain in a
very calm and peaceful state on a consistant 24 hr/day basis. I have a great
deal less anxiety, anger, stress and depression - and a lot more patience with
my young children! The program is expensive, but they have a money back
garuantee. Anyone who suffers from depression and wants to get off meds(or just
isn't helped by them) could benefit from at least trying this type of therapy.
There are also alot of other benefits to the holosync technology, they are
listed on the website."
[NOTE FROM DOMINIE: I used
the Holosync audiotape for sleep and find it quite helpful. I would be
interested to hear from anyone else who has used (or is using) Holosync
audiotechnology and how it has worked for you. I first heard about
Holosync from a newsletter reader several years ago, but didn't try
it until a few months ago. Since it had a money back guarantee, I
thought "What can I lose in trying it?"]
13. THE MAKER'S DIET
From a newsletter reader--
"See http://www.gardenoflifeusa.com -
I came across these products at a local health food store and
fell in love with almost all of them. You may have heard the remarkable
story of Jordan Rubin and of his book "The Maker's
Diet". Since I already believed that our Creator also created the
perfect diet for us, this book really hit home. I have had significant
improvement from using his products as has my mom and boyfriend. I recommend
them to everyone, but unfortunately, few are willing to pay the high prices.
However, everyone I know who has used them for one month has been willing to
continue paying for these wonderful supplements."
14.
PAINLESS EXERCISE
From a newsletter reader--
"I have a painless exercise routine that is
really helping with my rigid pelvis and spine stiffness. A Chi
energy machine, or a similar type of machine, really helps and since
you lay on the floor you do not have to put any strain on joints etc. You
lay on the floor with your ankles placed on a cradel device in the Chi
Swing machine - you are gently rocked from side to side - oxgenates the
cells and give gentle movement. It has really helped me - since most
aerobic or heavy weight bearing exercise leaves me in more discomfort then
comfort."

DR. WONG AND VITALZYME (revisited)
From a newsletter reader--
"Just a note - reading the June newsletter
http://www.fms-help.com/June2004.htm on
Fibrin - Vitalzymes - an enzyme product as developed by Dr. Wong (see his site)
will give inflammation relief and dissolve excess fibrin which becomes
adhesions, which coats ligaments and muscles - which causes stiffness and
lack of the ability to get the nerve/cell messages to various parts of the
body. Dr. Wong's site gives lots of 'great' information. Vitalzymes
and Dr. Wong's site was referred to me by a ND friend. I have personally
been using Vitalzymes for about 2 months and am noticing some nice
changes."

SLEEP IDEAS FROM A READER
"An update on sleeping....I have finally
gotten the monster calmed and in control - since that is what it feels like when
you cannot get to sleep or stay asleep. Like you I have had to take Ambien
to get to sleep, but I know that my liver was suffering from the 'drug' and when
you add any Tylenol or pain killers or other RX therapies - they all take their
toll on the liver. You may stop one symptom only to later on down the line
have to deal with your liver not working very well. The key to sleeping
came when after research I found out that Ambien is nothing more then a
Limbic/Gaba releaser - which means it turns off the Limbic system/mind looping
and quiets the mind. I realized that I just needed to take more
GABA. So here is my current, wonderful go to sleep, all natural supplement
list that I use. I am sleeping soundly 8 hours every night, only waking to
the bathroom.
3 - Anxiety Control (Gaba, B6, Magnesium,
Passion Flower - Pain & Stress Center supp.)
2 - 750 mg GABA
2 - 50 mg 5HTP
1 - 3mg Melatonin (in with the above I have
experienced NO nightmares or the like)
1 - RM10 - Immune Support (Garden of Life). I
have no idea why with the addition of this product I sleep better. A
number of years ago I had a sleep formula with mushrooms in it and it worked
well, so that is what led me to put RM10 into the current mix."
[NOTE FROM DOMINIE: From
reading this email, I decided to try 750 mg of GABA one hour before
bedtime. It's only been a few nights, but I think it's helping.
I take it along with some mild sleep meds. The jury is still out--I
will know more next month. I used to use 3 mg of melatonin for several
years very successfully, but when I turned 48 and my hormones changed, and
melatonin did not help at all. I never felt well taking 5HTP, but it seems
to help others. As with anything you read in this newsletter or on the
net, remember that none of us are doctors....we are FMS/CFIDS survivors trying
to help one another by sharing what we do to alleviate our symptoms. I
have found that the only people who understand what it's like to have FMS/CFIDS
are those who have it!]
