DOMS'
NEWSLETTER

Sept. 16, 2009
A
Christian-based newsletter for people with Fibromyalgia (FMS), Chronic Fatigue
& Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS), or Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.)
and their families.
17 TOPICS. READERS' COMMENTS IN BLACK. MY COMMENTS IN
TEAL.
1. READERS
WRITE
"
I can identify with so much on your website
www.fms-help.com! It's great that
someone is doing something for us out there! I really appreciate how
a stranger thousands of miles away can understand when friends
and family really can't understand."
"I have been reading your newsletters for some time and
find them very helpful."
"Thank you so much for your website - it's so nice to have a wonderful collection of all facets
of this disorder, from medication reviews, causes/symptoms, to
disability claims. Thank you so much for being an advocate and help to us all!"
"I want to tell you that I appreciate all the hard
work that you put into your newsletter."
2. PAIN
KILLERS
Reader 1--
"I suffer from acute nerve-related pain in my elbows,
forearms and hands brought on by FMS. My doctor prescribed
Baclofen for spasms and somehow this muscle relaxer helps
greatly with the nerve pain. Right now, I don't think I could live without
it!"
Reader 2--
"The ONLY thing that helps my worst fibro pain and
migraine pain, as well as having helped broken leg/ damaged ligaments in the
past is hydrocodone. I take Ultram for mild to moderate fibro pain and can get
some relief from that most days. If it is one of my bad days, or I get a
migraine, too, then only the hydrocodone helps. I get yearly
epidural blocks for shoulder and upper back pain, and that also helps a lot.
They have tried trigger point injections for my headaches and neck pain, and I
do not get good results from those."
Reader 3--
"High altitude and barometric pressure definitely
has very
much to do with increase of fibromyalgia and more pain.
This spring
and summer there was an El Ninjo off the coast of Texas, in the
Gulf,
and from TV weather channel (I was told) it could be seen that
these
cumulus clouds drifted all the way to Wyoming and of course
over
Colorado where your reader lives and asked about. I truly had a
very
hard time, lots of discomfort and some days unbearable. Even my
heart
(pacemaker, mitral valve prolapse etc etc) felt heavy. Sometimes
even
my skin burned. Had a whiplash at age 2 and my neck reacts fiercely
to
weather changes. My lower back has problems, and my knees, and this
past
spring/summer, also my hips and shoulders and upper arms were in
much pain.
PRACTICALLY MY WHOLE BODY!! .Many days I had to sleep and
sleep because it
sapped my energy. I will be 72 in 2 months from now,
and with
aging I no longer tolerate meds. Even Aleve or Ibuprovin...
just can
not take it (they make my heart race...) . And then in the
middle of misery I
remembered my special bottle of ENZYMES!!!! They
are
NOT ORDINARY digestive Enzymes. What makes these ENZYMES
DIFFERENT IS
that they ALSO HAVE: 480,000 USP units of PAPAIN and
144
GDU of BROMELAIN in the two tablets you take after a meal.
BRAND NAME
IS: ENZYZME PROCESS.. PRODUCT NAME IS: ZYMEPRO.
(200
tablets for about $29.00) It does two things: 1st) It
makes you
digest your food better and all homeopathic supplements
and/or
vitamins you take. 2nd) the great amounts of Papain
and Bromelain
act as a strong anti-inflamatory!!!!! 3rd) The
enzymes also eat up,
so to say, the toxins brought on by inflamation and
pain. You can
take up to 4 tablets daily, 2 after one meal, again
2 after your next
meal, In flare-ups you are allowed 6 total (divided by two
at each
meal). Take only AFTER a meal (not after a little
salad or after a
piece of toast, it might burn your tummy). There is also
another
brand: WOBENZYM from Germany, but more expensive, and has almost
same
ingredients in. Wobenzym has a vegetarien style version also
called
Rutenzym. These two products are more expensive for the simple
reason
that they have to be imported from Europe. In case I
still am in
much pain after I took may be 6 tablets of ZYMEPRO in one
day, but
can not take anymore because I reached the limit, then I
take just
BROMELAIN BY ITSELF and 2 or 3 CAPSULES OF TURMERIC.
Every day I
take extra ANTI-OXIDANTS, This is the best of
all: ALPHA-LIPOIC
ACID (it is a strong
anti-oxidant in itself, it re-circulates other
anti-oxidants (like Beta
carothene, Grapeseed extract, Vit C., Vit E.,
Pomegranate extract, Hawthorne
extct (for the heart) throughout the
body. Alpha Lipoic Acid also is
excellent for the heart, for your
eyes: retinas (I had macular degeration and
it is reversed now!! I
also have had hemorrhaging behind both
retinas!!), it brings down
blood sugar, and it cleanses the liver!! Isn't
that a great
anti-oxidant??? I take up to 300 mg of ALPHA LIPOIC
ACID a DAY!! It
does away with the extra oxidation that happens
when in pain. It
truly has helped my eyesight!! And every time I
eat something wrong
(foods with lots of hydrogenated oil in it) at
friends house, and it
affects my heart, the combination of these many
anti-oxidants helps to
clean and strenghthen my heart and the
flip-flopping stops.. I ONLY
TAKE THESE AFTER A MEAL AND WITH 2 CAYENNE
PEPPER CAPSULES AND LOTS OF
WATER!! So far I have had NO narrowing of
the arteries, my
cardiologist tells me. Some of you can not take
cayenne pepper, try
to sprinkle some on your meal may be. Always
eat a sturdy meal
before you take the ZYMEPRO, ALPHA LIPOIC ACID or
CAYENNE PEPPER. If
it still burns some, take more water. Or eat half a
banana, or half
slice of bread, grapes or other fruit. MY FAMILY DOCTOR WHO
USED TO BE
A PHARMACIST BEFORE HE BECAME A MD, AGREES THAT THESE
HOMEOPATHIC
SUPPLEMENTS ARE MUCH BETTER, BECAUSE WHEN WE BECOME A BIT OLDER,
OUR
BODIES DO NOT METABOLIZE MOST MEDICATIONS THAT COME FROM THE
PHARMACY!
If you have a HAIRBRUSH WITH RUBBER TIPPED
BRISTLES,
GENTLY MASSAGE THE AREAS THAT ARE PAINFUL with this brush. It
helps
the circulation and makes you feel good. ACUPUNCTURE HELPS SOME,
but
if YOU ARE OLDER, STAY AWAY FROM IT. IT CAN PLAY HAVOC WITH
THE
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN YOUR HEART AND YOU MIGHT END UP HAVING TO GO
TO
THE DOCTOR. (THE TECHNICIAN CONFIRMED TO ME, AFTER I HAD A BAD
SPELL
WITH MY HEART RHYTHM DURING ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT, THAT THE
TREATMENT
CAUSES MORE ELECTRICAL IMPULSES TO GO THROUGH YOUR BODY....which
I
experienced in my heart). Take also glucosame and chondroitin,
and
HYALURONIC ACID which Doctors now say is not just GOOD for the
JOINTS
but also for your HEART VALVES!! (Specially with Mitral V.P.)
WHEN IN
MUCH PAIN, it is said that our SEROTONIN AND ENDORPHIN LEVELS ARE
LOW,
INCLUDING DOPAMINE. A BANANA HAS A LOT OF SEROTONIN IN
IT. When
your days are really bad: try to read the
funnies, see a comical
video or DVD, listen to healing scriptures and KEEP
TRUSTING GOD!! And
always PRAY for OTHERS: THE MANY,
MANY (millions and millions) of
CHILDREN THAT are HOMELESS IN THE WORLD AND
HAVE NO ONE, THAT LIVE IN
SEWER SYSTEMS of ROMANIA, REPUBLICS OF THE
FORMER RUSSIA, INDIA, IN
AFRICA (orphans because parents died of AIDS)
IN SOUTH AMERICA because
their parents can not afford these children anymore
and dump them down
town in large cities...) And even here we have children
that are so
alone..... THIS REALLY BREAKS MY HEART. PRAY for
them, and when you
pray for somebody else, it makes you feel much
better. The above
shows you how I went through this past summer..
because this summer it
was severe... .. May it help now somebody
else! ZymePro I buy at
my Food and Health Store or they order it
when they are out. All other
items I purchase at Swanson Health
Products (I prefer a catalog so
I can read up on the
articles. Call toll free 1-800-437-4148.)"
FROM DOM: Wow. What
great suggestions!
3. LACK OF SYMPATHY
FOR FIBRO
From a
reader--
"I just want to thank you so much for this newsletter- I
do not know what I would do without it! I need those reminders that other
people go through this too - and that someone understands. I do
not care how much out loved ones support us, unless they have FMS too they just
do not "get" what we suffer through! my husband told me yesterday that "other
people just deal with pain and get on with their lives;" it was like my
heart just broke. HOW do we get them to understand?"
FROM DOM: I am soooo sorry for
this. My hearts breaks with yours. I think every fibromite reading
this newsletter can relate to the emotional pain which is sometimes heaped upon
the physical pain by friends and family who do not understand. I have many
supportive and insightful articles on my homepage at www.fms-help.com - look in the yellow box on the left and scroll down the
list. Frankly, if the shoe were on the other foot, I would not be
understanding of people with this mysterious disorder. As a Type A
workaholic, perhaps God let me have this problem to make me a more compassionate
human being, you never know. Sometimes we can "educate" people into
understanding us more, but the only people who truly understand
FMS/CFIDS are those of us who have it. I have a list of things that helped
my fibro pain at www.fms-help.com/what.htm - scroll
3/4 down the page to the RED writing. Prior to these discoveries, I
suffered extreme fibro pain for 14 years (1982-1996). I have been 95% pain
free for the past 13 years, but suffered with other FMS/CFIDS problems
(insomnia, depression, fatigue, brain fog, etc.) I have to use a
many-faceted approach to stay functional, but am thankful to have at least found
some weapons to use against this illness.
4. ANXIETY
RELIEF
From a
reader--
"I am writing to give you a trick I read for when you are
anxious of having an anxiety attack. You take the thumb and next two fingers of
any hand; you cover on nostril with your thumb and inhale from you stomach you
cover up the nostril you inhaled from and let out through the other nostril. You
keep alternating like this for seven minutes. You will feel relaxed and ready to
move on. I hope this will help."
FROM DOM: A very low dose of
Ativan (Lorazepam) can also be helpful, but be careful with this
stuff.
5. SUGAR &
PAIN
From a reader--
"About the reader who was having to be on huge doses of pain meds and
waking up with swollen hands etc. I defintely would dump the sugar. Sugar and
cookies and all that stuff will kill you. For those of us with fibro, cfs, etc
they are a death sentence. I also would not recommend to substitute
artificial sweeteners. Several of my fibro patients felt artificial
sweeteners, especially equal, made their pain worse. I have also
benefited from pain and seasonal illnesses with homeopathic stuff. I
never would have believed it would work from my science training, but it really
does. If you get the right remedy, it's almost like magic...Available
at most health food stores."
6. EGG
BEATERS
Reader 1--
"From a nutrition standpoint, I am a
nutritionist (MS, RD) and I don't recommend fake
food for anyone with fibromyalgia. I would choose high Omega 3
eggs or high DHA eggs in which the yolk has more good fats. Many fibro
people with whom I have worked (in a traditional doctor practice- not
alternative), and we have many, have benefits from a natural foods diet in which
they remove the processed foods and artificial dyes etc from their diets.
I actually learned from my patients, and started recommending and many have done
better. Hard at first because of cooking etc with pain. Many have to put stools
in the kitchen in order to prepare, but ultimately pain is much better.
Most recent research (I believe you can check the summary article in either
March or Feb of 2009 of BMJ-British Medical Journal) indicates eggs are not bad
for heart health if that is why you are choosing egg beaters over the real
thing. Most doctors, honestly, don't keep up with the latest studies even in
traditional nutrition- although there are some that I work with that do.
Another opinion, Donna Gates of www.bodyecologydiet.com does not recommend egg whites (egg
beaters are "altered" egg whites. She says they are bad for people who are
sensitive. She recommends only egg yolks. Her probiotic based whole
food diet has helped many people."
Reader
2--
"I can't imagine that egg beaters would cause a
fibro flare but we're all so sensitive who knows for sure? Does this
person have trouble with eggs? Basically egg beaters are just egg
whites. I have been using them for months and have no
problems."
Reader
3--
"Egg beaters is just egg whites with a little color
to make look like scrambled eggs, I have never heard of anyone having problems
unless they were allergic to eggs. It seems everyone I know with FMS/CFS/ME this
year is hurting more. I almost think it could be weather
related."
Reader

15%DV of Vitamin A (100% as Beta Carotene)
Use Egg Beaters®
in place of whole eggs for delicious dishes and in all your favorite
recipes.
In place of the most natural food given to us by God. Farm
fresh eggs (NOT FACTORY FARMED) are an aedible health giving vitamin pill. I
wonder why your original writer is using a processed food? (Egg Beaters is not a
natural food) She/he is starving themselves of the complete nutrients, which are
essential to every healthy body - and for bodies like ours, which are NOT
healthy - then we need all the BEST nutrients possible. I do hope they are not
avoiding fresh eggs due to some misguided need to reduce healthy fats. Perhaps
they have an egg allergy? Maybe NOT as I suspect egg whites would still be
allergic?
According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization
(FAO), the whole chicken egg is rated as one of the best sources of high-quality
protein, surprisingly rating higher than cow milk, fish, beef, and legumes. The
chart below illustrates the nutritional qualities of the chicken egg...

Besides its high protein content, the chicken egg is known to have
nearly every single nutrient needed for life, except vitamin C. The University
of Illinois says the following about the protein quality of the chicken egg and
its relation to dieting:
Eggs are especially valuable as a source of protein. In fact, egg protein
is used as the standard against which the quality of other food proteins is
measured. One egg contains about 6 to 7 grams of protein. People of all ages
need adequate protein for building and repairing body tissues. The fat in the
yolk is so finely emulsified that it is digested easily, even by infants. The
ratio of unsaturated to saturated fats is about 2 to 1. This is considered
very desirable. Oleic acid is the main unsaturated fat. It has no effect on
blood cholesterol. Eggs contain vitamin A, the B vitamins (thiamin,
riboflavin, and niacin), and vitamin D. All are necessary during childhood and
adolescence for growth. Eggs also contain an abundant supply of minerals, such
as iron and phosphorus, that are essential for building and maintaining
strong, healthy bodies. But eggs are low in calcium (it is in the shell), and
contain little or no vitamin C.
To end my rant let me just say that I eat two eggs (WHOLE) farm fresh
- every morning of the week.... as does my husband. Poached, scrambled or
fried, they give us energy and nutrition to start our day. They are delicious,
satisfying and healthful. I wonder if the Egg Beaters that were asked about in
your writer's question are depriving them of vital nutrients, minerals etc,
plus the most needed healthy oils? Perhaps going back to the whole food of
farm fresh eggs will assist them in feeling
better."

SAVELLA
From a
reader--
"Regarding Savella: I've been taking it for about 2
months now. The long list of possible side effects can be intimidating,
but read the list of side effects for any medication--even the over-the-counter
stuff. Almost every drug carries with it a horrifying list of side
effects. Of course we have to pay attention to these lists, but it's
useful to also remember that the drug companies must list every possible side
effect about which they are aware. Most of these
complications are rare, as is stated on the pharmaceutical
documentation. As for me and my experience with Savella, so far I
experience no side effects. And I do think it's finally beginning to
help--at least a little. My PCP told me that she just learned from the
drug rep that it takes about 2 months for Savella to begin working.
I also want to add that about 6 years ago, I participated
in one of the pharmaceutical studies for milnacipran, which is now called
Savella. During the 9-month study, I did not experience any difficulties
as a result of taking med, and 6 of those 9 months I knew I was getting the
medication and not a placebo. As we all know, one drug produces varied
results among all those who take it. What works for me might not work for
you; what causes me to break out in hives might be your perfect remedy.
For most people, Savella is probably not poison, and it might actually help
many fibro sufferers. One of your readers commented that her doc was very
excited when she agreed to try Savella, and her doc's obvious delight made
her suspicious of the drug. My PCP told me that some of her patients will
not take Savella because of the high cost. That might explain some of this
other doctor's pleasure in finding someone who will try this drug. For me,
Savella looks promising. Lyrica greatly eased my fibro symptoms, but
I could not take it due to the side effects. Everyone is
different."

MUSIC
A 19-year-old young man referred me
to a most insightful article http://www.av1611.org/crock.html - "Christian Rock: Blessing or Blasphemy?" I have been a lifelong musician, and the
declining trends in church music have concerned me greatly. I am positive
that some of this music grieves the Holy Spirit, because of the spirit of
rebellion (not the spirit of obedience to Jesus) and it brings oppression into
the worship service. At our church we have a very
exciting music program and sing all kinds of music! It is just
wonderful!! My favorite, however, always returns to the old hymns of the
faith. We are one of the few churches that still sings many traditional
hymns congregationally. I really appreciate them - they make me stronger spiritually and don't give opportunity
to glorify the flesh, the way some of the newer songs do. Hymns
are rock solid - inspired by the Holy Spirit - and full of sound
doctrine (not just emotion) that helps sustain us in real life. I
am thankful that our dear pastor's wife (a consummate church pianist) and our
excellent music director are "in tune" with God and choose the amazing music
that we sing. We have 40 in the choir and 10 in the orchestra. It is
soooo much fun to work with these Christian musicians - a joyous high
point in my life right now!
9. OXYGENATING
DROPS
From a
reader--
"How fast did the oxygen force start working for you? I
swear I've only just started it on Sunday but by today (Tues) I was
feeling really good
I had a very long /stressful/busy day with work .. and my energy stayed
intact all day long untill I got home Im a little depleted now ..but I only
had one of my 8oz drinks before I left in the morning..I drank another one as
soon as I got home and will do one more prior to bed...amazing!
Thank you again for referring this product."
FROM DOM: So glad it
has helped you too. The drops started working for me in 2
days. That was a month ago, and I've had no "fibro fog" or "crashes" at
all, despite a heavy workload and lots of things going on in my life.
If anyone else tries it, please email dombush@bellsouth.net - I am always
curious about what is helping us.
For info, Click here, then
click Oxygen at the top of the page in the pink
bar. These are alkalizing and oxygenating drops
(stabilized liquid oxygen) that you put in drinking water. I make
up a day's worth in a container and drink it throughout the day. I
still can't believe that I feel normal now. Maybe it is keeping my pH more
alkaline?? I taught piano today from 1:30 p.m. and got home at 8:30
p.m. and I'm still feeling normal. Now that's amazing......what a
relief! Unless someone has suffered the debilitating fatigue and "brain
exploding, heart crushing" feeling, they don't know what a blessing it is to not
have this horrible burden to bear that feels like it will kill you.
What if these drops are "the answer" more of us have been looking for?? I
have been researching our problem for 13 years and happy for anything that helps
us feel better. I am SO thankful for the reader who wrote to me about
these oxygen drops in response to my immuno-deficiency
email.
10. EAR
SWELLING
From a reader--
"I take Lipo Flavanoids, Costco carries it, to help with inner ear
circulation. Might help her."
11. FROM MY
HEART
Last Sunday morning, our associate
pastor, Bro. Lee, was preaching on the difference between religion and
salvation. It was very insightful. His text was from Genesis 4:
1-14 about Cain and Abel. (Some of my insights as I re-read the
text....Cain felt no remorse for what he did - he even "talked back" to God,
like teenagers do - "Am I my brother's keeper?" Even when dished out his
punishment, it was all about him - his punishment was "more than he could
bear." His thinking pattern is like most criminal minds today - not
remorseful, sleep just fine, no sympathy for their victim, etc.)
Anyway, back to Bro. Lee's important message, it reminded me of what I
experienced at age 36 - see "Religious, But Lost"at www.fms-help.com/salvation.htm. As we struggle with FMS/CFIDS/ME
from day to day, there is also eternity to consider. Our earthly
problems, awful as they can be, are temporary. Our eternal destiny
(heaven or hell) will be permanent. I hope my story will help someone
- it would be just plain wrong to only talk about our fibro situation and
not share this hugely important aspect of my life with you, my loyal
readers!
12. WEATHER, ALTITUDE
& FIBRO
Reader 1--
"I lived in the So. CA Mts for 3 years at about
8,000 feet. Winters were miserable. I loved the snow and the quiet it
brings, but I spent about 2 months of each fall to winter IN
BED. My temp was actually in the 94's some days. My neighbor
talked me into going to a local clinic, one day when I could not get up to
answer the door. The PA asked me if I had a heart as they had trouble getting a
cuff BP reading. The PA also asked me if I was alive--kiddingly of course
due to the low body temp. The PA was deligent and examined me thoroughly
& diagnosed with shingles. Even after the med I was still in
bed on months on and off. I seemed almost hypothermic some
days. Spring was wonderful, I had energy and summer was also
good. Some pain of course and asthma. Sleep problems lots
of meds, but the spring and sunmer months or about4-5 months of then were
great. I am in TN now from So CA , visiting grandkids &
family...everyday is a new pain...IF I DIDN'T KNOW GOD WAS GOING TO GIVE
ME A NEW BODY ONE DAY SOON, I would not have the joy
I have. The older I get the more thankful I am for what I
have been through. Without much of the pain, prayer &, tears I might
never have loved Jesus so very much. I might have missed understanding how
much he paid for me and how much I am loved. My friends and family
have been wonderful, though they all have their own problems and need my support
too. This has given a heart for the hurting, and made me realize how
important THE WORD and TIME WITH GOD IS."
FROM DOM:
Amen!!! That new body sounds
wonderful to me too! And I love spending time with God in His Word.
There is no greater refreshment for our weary spirits than this!
Earth life is tough. So glad we have heaven to look forward to and being
with Jesus, safe at last.
Reader 2--
"To your reader that posted about high altitude
and weather, here is
something that I posted on the yahoo
group CFSFMExperimental a while ago
at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/CFSFMExperimental/message/121134Re: Low Pressure and Increase of Symptoms -- Why??
Hi
Sue,
Here is one possible explanation/theory.
According to gas
laws, a gas is evenly distributed in a container.
The earths atmosphere is a
container that holds the gases that make up
the air that we breathe.
According to gas laws, there is just as much
oxygen in the air at the top of
mount everest as there is oxygen in
the air at sea level. The reason that the
mountain climber must
supply oxygen is that the air pressure at that altitude
restricts the
transfer of oxygen from the lungs into the blood.
So to
answer your question why your symptoms worsen during periods of
low pressure,
the oxygen transfer to the blood is going to be reduced.
This effect will
affect all people, and the difference in oxygen
uptake is probably very
minute but to a person whose body is already
oxygen deprived due to low blood
volume and other factors, it is a
straw that breaks the camels
back.
Sometimes humid climates can have a similar effect, as the moisture
in
the air can also interfere with oxygen transfer.
All the
best,
Jim
The bad
weather that your reader describes is generally associated with
a low
pressure area. The FAA requires that people piloting aircraft
above
12,000 ft. must be on oxygen. Your reader lives almost at that
altitude
all the time. Then add to that already low air pressure,
further low
pressure from bad weather and you begin to see why maybe the
increased
oxygen starvation is exacerbating symptoms. I think
that if she were to vacation at sea level for a few
days she would feel much
better, for awhile anyway, until her body
adjusted to the
change.
When I start up my research again I will be
including teachings from the
scriptures, as I believe that faith is key to
eliminating stress in our
life. And stress reduction is very
important to allow the body to heal."
13. BURNING MOUTH
SYNDROME & GEOGRAPHIC TONGUE
From a
reader--
"Just wanted to let the person with “burning mouth
syndrome” and “geographical tongue" know that my brother has the geo. tongue
whenever he eats walnuts. So must be something in them
that triggers it. Might help in figuring out what's causing
it?"
FROM DOM: I can't have walnuts
at all - it causes me to have cold sores almost immediately. I think it's
the high arginine content. I have been using DMSO for cold sore management
for a month, and haven't had one since I began using this!
If this keeps on working, it will be the answer to my prayers of the
past 10 years!
14.
COLLEGE FIBRO BLUES?
15. ENERGY
From a reader--
"Can I ever so relate to how your energetic elderly mother
has more energy than you do. I remember muttering to myself, "How can that be?
My mother has more energy than I and I'm only 40!" I'm glad to read your
same plight and may you get the remedy to help you travel afar!"
FROM DOM: If these oxygen drops keep
working like they have for the past month, I may try to make the trip
soon! Will keep you posted! Mom will sure be surprised to see
me. I just wish the sleep disorder would go away so I could sleep without
meds, but I'm doubtful after 40+ years of insomnia. But at least the fibro
fog and brain crashing fatigue is gone. Working is a breeze when your
brain and body is cooperating.
16. TEETH
WHITENING
From a reader--
"A couple of years ago my daughter and I both
bought a box of the regular Crest white strips at Walmart. Unfortunately,
I had to quit after a few days as I have very sensitive teeth and
couldn't take the "zinging." However, my daughter was
able to complete the program and her teeth definitely were noticeably
whiter. In fact, her husband was so impressed he tried them and it worked
for him too."
17. MAGNESIUM FOR
CONSTIPATION, FIBRO, ETC.
From a
reader--
"I found some interesting
stuff about Magnesium. My [adult son] has ADHD, so I'm gonna get Mom some, me
some, and him some.
MAGNESIUM Overview
Information
Dietary intake of magnesium may be particularly low among
women.
An easy way to remember foods that are good magnesium sources is
to think fiber. Foods that are high in fiber are generally high in magnesium.
Dietary sources of magnesium include legumes, whole grains, vegetables
(especially broccoli, squash, and green leafy vegetables), seeds, and nuts
(especially almonds). Other sources include dairy products, meats, chocolate,
and coffee. Water with a high mineral content, or “hard” water, is also a source
of magnesium.
Magnesium deficiency is not uncommon in the US. It’s
particularly common among African Americans and the elderly.
Magnesium is
also used as a laxative for constipation and for preparation of the bowel for
surgical or diagnostic procedures. It is also used as an antacid for acid
indigestion.
Some people use magnesium for diseases of the heart and
blood vessels including chest pain, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure,
high levels of “bad” cholesterol called low-density lipoprotein (LDL)
cholesterol, low levels of “good” cholesterol called high-density lipoprotein
(HDL) cholesterol, heart valve disease (mitral valve prolapse), and heart
attack.
Magnesium is also used for treating attention
deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS),
Lyme disease, fibromyalgia, leg cramps during pregnancy, diabetes, kidney
stones, migraine headaches, weak bones (osteoporosis), premenstrual syndrome
(PMS), altitude sickness, urinary incontinence, kidney stones, restless leg
syndrome, asthma, hayfever, multiple sclerosis, and for preventing hearing
loss.
Athletes sometimes use magnesium to increase energy and
endurance.
Some people put magnesium on their skin to treat infected skin
ulcers, boils, and carbuncles; and to speed up wound healing. Magnesium is also
used as a cold compress in the treatment of a severe skin infection caused by
strep bacteria (erysipelas) and as a hot compress for deep-seated skin
infections.
Some companies that manufacturer magnesium/calcium
combination supplements promote a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio as being ideal for absorption
of these elements. However, there is no credible research to support this claim.
Claims that coral calcium products have ideal combinations of magnesium and
calcium to cure a variety of diseases and conditions are being carefully
evaluated by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and US Federal Trade
Commission (FTC).
Magnesium is required for the proper growth and
maintenance of bones. Magnesium is also required for the proper function of
nerves, muscles, and many other parts of the body. In the stomach, magnesium
helps neutralize stomach acid and moves stools through the
intestine."
